Lullaby, Elegy, Habanera … like a return to childhood in the relationship to melody, this program invites the listener to a sonic innocence, where we let ourselves be led by these nostalgic songs for a journey to the heart of a dreamed Bohemia.

After having distanced ourselves for a while from the great traditional repertoire of the piano trio on the occasion of our album of Liszt-Schumann-Schönberg transcriptions, we are returning to the project that guides our recordings: that of associating the works of the great repertoire that we encounter on a daily basis with new discoveries, in order to offer new sonic perspectives to works deeply rooted in our “collective unconscious.

We have therefore chosen to immerse ourselves in Antonin Dvorak’s emblematic Trio op. 65, undoubtedly his finest achievement for the group, due to its imposing dimensions as a world-work: at once a passionate song of love with Brahmsian accents, a bucolic reverie with a strong nostalgia, and a jubilant outpouring of Moravian folk idioms and traditional Czech dance rhythms.

After having highlighted in our previous albums rare opuses by Weinberg or Tailleferre, we wanted to rediscover here a repertoire that is rarely played: Josef Suk’s Trio opus 2 and his Elegy opus 23. A talented violinist, Suk was also an aspiring composer and Dvorak, whose daughter Otilie he later married, his mentor. His trio is a fresh and brilliant early work, in which one recognizes both the influence of the master and the naive and touching impulses of the young and romantic virtuoso. The Elegie opus 23 completes the dreamy picture of this album with its loving notes.
